Joe La Forest

Joseph George La Forest was born December 31st, 1957 in St. Louis, MO. Joe was raised in the Midwest and became a California boy in the late 1970s when he and his band “Raising Kain” moved to Lodi. He passed into heaven on September 13, 2017.

The band had few gigs, so Joe also worked as a school bus driver. Although the band did not last, Joe continued to play with area musicians at various events. He drove commercial trucks the last twenty years and was last employed as a driver for Safeway. Joe will be forever missed by all his family and friends.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Katherine, his adopted “west coast mom” Joyce Bowen, and his first wife Pam Bowen.
He is survived by his wife Francine, daughter Angel, son Nathan; his brothers: “Al”, Tom, and Louie; his sisters: Beth, Mary, Jean, and Annie. He is also survived by his “west coast dad” Bob Bowen, his sister in law’s: Debbie, Colleen, and Lisa. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law Vickie and Bill Gardner, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at Lodi Memorial Cemetery, located at 5750 E Pine St, Lodi, CA 95240, Friday, September 22nd, 2017, at 11am. In lieu of flowers please contribute to theAmerican Cancer Society

Angel Alcantara

 

Our beloved Angel Alcantara, 37, of Lodi passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 in Elk Grove, Ca. He was born on May 17, 1980 in Lodi Ca. Angel is survive by his father, Leonardo Alcantara, Sr., mother, Angela Ruiz, brothers, Ernesto Alcantara, Eddie Alcantara, Jr., Damian Alcantara, and sister, Perla Aleman. The visitation will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Donahue Funeral Home, 123 N. School Street, Lodi, Ca. The viewing will also be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Donahue Funeral Home. The graveside service will be held at 11:30a.m. at the Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5750 east Pine Street, Lodi,

Lloyd Henry Deffenbaugh

 

On Saturday morning Lloyd Deffenbaugh joined his maker after 102 years and 37 days. He was surrounded by those he loved most, his children and their spouses. He was the kindest, most remarkable person you may have ever met. He had a magnetic spirit, great sense of humor and kind heart. Strangers would come up to talk and ask for advice in the middle of restaurants. Born in IL, he was recruited off of Chicago’s State St., when asked if he wanted to go to Texas for the mounted cavalry, he said he’d seen horses his whole life and wanted to try something different. He joined the Army Air Corps at age 20. Attending basic training in Self Ridge Field in Michigan where he tricked his future wife into attending a birthday party in May so he could see her when his birthday was August. He served during the WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars in Administrative Intelligence and worked for NATO while stationed in Italy. He also supervised training of one of the first African American squadrons during WWII. He was awarded the first European E9 and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He loved dancing, humming, reading the paper, watching sports, daily weather reports, rhubarb pies, and micro beer. He had piercing blue eyes, and a receding hairline which has been passed down 5 generations. He was a true patriot, loved his country and family more than anything. A staunch democrat all his life, open minded and liberal later in life. He will be greeted by his wife Esther, his mother, father, Sharon, Penny, Peggy, Bud, Mike, Vic, Annie, Phyllis, Mid, Eleanor and all who proceeded him in death. It is a difficult time for America in many ways but if you have time, please have a beer for Lloyd and do something you love, he’d rather be celebrated rather than mourned. He will be interned at the national cemetery in Riverside on September 29th. The family asks that donations be given to the Veterans of Foreign Wars to help service families.
